It may be Heart Month, but community fundraisers big and small are hosted throughout the year in support of the Regional Cardiac Care Program at Southlake. Serving approximately 10,000 patients every year from across York Region, South Simcoe County and as far north as Muskoka, this program has an incredible impact on these communities.

And they work hard to give back.

This month, Megathon is back, celebrating their fifth annual event and keeping the fun of their unique fundraiser going strong.

This one-day event at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Leisure Centre is supporting the Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Program at Southlake, vital in the long-term recovery of patients with cardiovascular disease. It provides education and rehab services at locations across the communities we serve – including the Magna Centre in Newmarket, which opened in fall 2018, and the BWG Leisure Centre.

Megathon takes place on Saturday, February 22, the event offering a selection of fitness classes. Participants can register in advance or drop in, experiencing everything from the highly active Zumba, bootcamp and aquafit classes to the slower-paced yoga, stretching and meditation.

But these are no ordinary classes. Each one boasts a different theme, including crazy hair, monopoly, rodeo, and classic ninjas, to name a few.

Classes are $10 each or 5 for $30, with funds raised supporting the Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation team at Southlake, which provides education and programs for recovering cardiac patients.

Southlake’s Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation team also hosts their own annual Walk of Life fundraiser to support programming and resources for their patients, with this year’s event taking place on June 11 at the Newmarket Magna Centre.
