Southlake and the Town of Newmarket collaborate to dedicate vaccination appointments for youth aged 12+ and their families

Southlake Regional Health Centre and the Town of Newmarket in collaboration with York Region Public Health are offering Family Vaccine Days for youth aged 12+ and their families from May 27 – June 1. These appointments are for people who live, work or go to school in York Region.  All appointments must be booked in advanced.

“We will be creating a family-friendly atmosphere and we’re thrilled to provide a fun, stress-free vaccine experience.  I thank our Southlake Pediatricians for volunteering on Family Vaccine Days. This event is part of York Region Public Health’s Youth Vaccination Strategy. We are grateful to the Town of Newmarket for their support and expertise in creating family-friendly events,” says Gayle Seddon, Director of Community Partnerships and Programs at Southlake.

Fun activities include an ice cream truck, safely distanced buskers and lots more activities arranged by the Town of Newmarket. Town and Southlake staff will be onsite to ensure appropriate physical distancing and that all health and safety measures are closely followed.

“This youth vaccination effort is a great illustration of how our partnership with Southlake is building a healthier community. Vaccination is key to opening up our economy and getting kids back into the classroom,” says Newmarket Mayor John Taylor. “The Ray Twinney Centre has delivered over 110,000 doses to residents in our community. Creating a positive, family-friendly experience for youth and their families is one of the ways we’re continuing to work together to get as many needles in arms as possible and reopening our economy.”

Private spaces for vaccinations and other supportive accommodations are provided as part of the vaccination centre.  Southlake and the Town of Newmarket continue to work together to meet the needs of our community and we aim to vaccinate more than 3000 people from May 27 through to June 1.
