26 means a lot to this mom of four!
For Krissy Young, the 2021 Nature’s Emporium Run for Southlake is a chance to give back. Her goal is to run 260 km in 26 days and, along with her team, Baby, I Was Born To Run… raise $26,000 for Southlake.
Krissy Young’s very big connection to Southlake started very small. Her twins, born 8 weeks premature, spent 26 days in Southlake’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Already parents to two toddlers, Krissy looks back on the experience with gratitude. Even though those 26 days felt like a lifetime, the fact that her babies received excellent care close to home meant everything. 26 is indeed the magic number behind her Run goals.
These days, Krissy is more likely to be found on a “seek and search walk” with her children, Liam 6, Charlotte 5, and 4-year-old twins Connor and Kyle. Like all of us, she is relishing the sunshine and the promise of brighter days.
As a trained kindergarten teacher, Krissy feels at home having her children learn virtually. They can’t take chances with COVID-19. When Connor and Kyle were born, their lungs were underdeveloped. Now they are strapping boys, but their lungs have not yet caught up and they both have asthma. Those issues have kept Krissy coming back to Southlake.
Krissy’s children are also involved in their mom’s fundraising efforts for the 2021 Nature’s Emporium Run for Southlake.
“Southlake has given us so much to be thankful for,” she says. When Krissy runs her 10km each day towards her 260km goal, 6-year-old Liam will be by her side for the final two, having committed to run 50km himself. “He knows why we are doing this and he has practiced,” says Krissy. He is also raising money with a lemonade/snack stand – modified as a curbside pick-up, due to current government restrictions.
It will be apt that the Run finishes on Mother’s Day, the same day, four years ago, Krissy was able to first hold Connor. For Krissy, the 2021 Nature’s Emporium Run for Southlake is a great way for her family to say thank you.
