Southlake Health launches new website about the future of health care across northern York Region and southern Simcoe County
Southlake Health has launched a new website to give communities across northern York Region and southern Simcoe County an inside look at one of the most significant health care transformations in the region’s history. The website will serve as the central destination for residents to follow Southlake’s journey to build a more connected, modern, and sustainable healthcare system designed to bring care closer to home.
“Southlake’s Distributed Health Network is about more than building hospitals and facilities,” said Paul Woods MD, President and CEO, Southlake Health. “By becoming a Distributed Health Network, Southlake will redefine how care is delivered to better meet the care needs of our growing and aging communities.”
With the Province of Ontario’s endorsement and support, Southlake will transform into a Distributed Health Network (DHN) over the next decade. The DHN will be:
- Anchored by two hospital sites: a redeveloped Davis Drive campus and a new acute care hospital in East Gwillimbury
- Supported by community-based services at Advanced Care Centres across the region
- Enabled by digital health and system partnerships to ensure seamless care.
The new website will help patients, families, and residents learn about Southlake’s transformation with regular project updates and answers to frequently asked questions. Residents can click on a specific municipality for information about projects in their community as well as local events hosted by Southlake.
The website also includes information about how Southlake is using population health management to guide planning and decision-making in its communities. By analyzing community health trends, identifying gaps in care, and understanding how residents access healthcare services, Southlake is helping ensure future investments reflect the evolving needs of local communities.
“Every part of Southlake’s vision to become a Distributed Health Network will enhance the patient experience, improve access, and expand capacity by bringing care closer to home,” said Dr. Woods. “As we continue on this journey, we wanted our communities to have a hub to follow along.”

- Southlake Health is planning open houses to help community members learn about its Distributed Health Network. Events will be added to the municipality pages on the new DHN website as they are confirmed.
- The Province of Ontario has endorsed Southlake’s vision to become a DHN over the next decade. The endorsement is supported by a $10 million investment that will be used to plan for the redevelopment ofSouthlake’s existing Davis Drive campus and the construction of a second acute care hospital in East Gwillimbury.
