Nursing Graduate Guarantee

Southlake is a proud participant in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) program for newly registered Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. With funding support through the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, an extended, robust orientation will be provided at Southlake to support transition into practice. Through this initiative, Southlake supports new RNs and RPNs by providing them with a full-time employment opportunity, above staffing complement. This improves their transition into practice, and into full-time employment.

The NGG program at Southlake consists of:

  • Nursing and interprofessional orientation learning modules to support comprehensive understanding of Standards and Policies
  • A competency based learning pathway and learning plan to support the nurse’s learning needs
  • 12 weeks preceptored shifts for unit(s) specific to NGG hire, to support the transition of the new graduate into practice
  • Regular check-ins and mentorship with the Nurse Educator

Southlake has been a proud participant in this ministry funded initiative for several years and is excited to take part in it again by supporting new nursing graduates transition into practice in the following areas/specializations:

  • Medicine Program
  • Inpatient Surgery
  • MSK
  • Cancer Care
  • Cardiology
  • Emergency Department (admitted patients area only)
