Over $20 million will help Southlake Health deliver leading edge care, close to home

As part of its plan to build a health care system that better supports the needs of people and families across the province, the Ontario government is investing over $20 million, including an increase in annual base funding of $11.6 million, in Southlake Health. This investment will support Southlake’s operations, ensuring people and families in northern York Region and southern Simcoe County have access to high-quality care, close to home.

“I would like to thank the Premier and the Minister of Health for listening to the needs of my community,” said Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP for Newmarket—Aurora. “Listening to the needs of our local health institution is what I have been doing for the past few years. Whether it is an investment in planning to increase capacity at Southlake Health, or advocating for additional health infrastructure renewal funding, I am committed to ensuring our residents have access to great care, close to home.”

Southlake serves some of the fastest growing and aging communities in Ontario, growing at twice the rate of the provincial average. By increasing base funding, the government is ensuring Southlake can continue to serve its communities, while supporting and retaining healthcare workers.

“Our government is making historic investments in Ontario’s hospitals to ensure people and families have access to fast and convenient care, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This investment builds on our work to enhance capacity in our hospitals and will provide communities with the beds they need to deliver high-quality health care close to home, for years to come.”

As part of the over $257 million invested by the government to support the continued operation of over 3,500 acute, post-acute and critical care beds across Ontario, Southlake will also receive $9.4 million to support the operation of mental health and transitional care beds. This is another step the government is taking to improve access, expand capacity and decrease wait times at Ontario’s hospitals, building a health care system that better serves patients both now and into the future.

Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, Ontario is making it easier and faster for people of all ages to connect to the care they need, where and when they need it.
