Southlake temporarily managing River Glen Haven Nursing Home

Monday May 25, 2020

Over the past six weeks, Southlake has been supporting a number of long-term care facilities in our area. We have partnered with the Central Region, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, York Region Public Health and Paramedic Services, and the staff and management of the facilities. Our teams have assessed and tested residents and staff, helped with infection prevention education and led Personal Protective Equipment training.

One of the homes we have been helping is River Glen Haven in Sutton. Over the last two weeks, a team of Southlake management staff have offered guidance and recommendations to help the facility respond to an outbreak of COVID-19 at the home.

On May 25, 2020, the Ministry of Long-Term Care announced that Southlake will be temporarily managing River Glen Haven. Our top priorities are to effectively manage the outbreak and to ensure that residents receive high-quality care. Our other objectives include open and frequent communication with the family members of residents, achieving appropriate staffing levels, and supporting River Glen Haven staff during this difficult time.

At Southlake we have a responsibility to support the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. As part of the transformation underway in Ontario’s healthcare system, we expect the role of hospitals will continue to evolve and the opportunity to partner with our colleagues in the long-term care sector is a prime example of the benefit of increased collaboration between local healthcare organizations.

Southlake will provide regular updates to the families of residents at River Glen Haven and will also provide updates for the public on our website. Click here for the news release from the Ministry of Long-Term Care.
