CardioMEMS Innovation at Southlake

Wednesday September 11, 2019

  • Cardiac

The CardioMEMS device is a small sensor that is implanted directly into a patient’s pulmonary artery, detecting changes in pulmonary artery pressure and heart rate, and wirelessly sending the information to the patient’s doctor.

The device reduces the chances of patients developing new symptoms, or having to go the hospital. At the time of video production, Southlake Regional Health Centre was one of only four health centres in Canada implanting the device.
