NEWMARKET, ON – Mercedes-Benz Newmarket, along with the support of their customers and brand ambassadors, Toronto Maple Leafs’ Morgan Rielly and Tampa Bay Lightning’s Anthony Cirelli, has generously donated $50,000 to Southlake’s HERE is Where Cancer Meets Its Match campaign.

The funds raised will support Southlake’s $20 million cancer campaign, now over 60% of the way towards the campaign goal, made possible through the support of community fundraising partners like Mercedes-Benz Newmarket.

The campaign is growing the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre’s capacity to meet the increasing demand for care in the community. Gifts made to the campaign will ensure Southlake can continue to bring the latest technology to the Cancer Centre and enable Southlake’s talented clinicians to deliver the best care — and the best chance for patients to survive their cancer — right here in York Region.

Throughout the month of May, Mercedes-Benz contributed $200 from every new vehicle sold or leased at the dealership to support the Campaign. In July, Mercedes-Benz customers joined Tampa Bay Lightning star Anthony Cirelli at Magna Golf Club for the annual Mercedes Trophy Golf Tournament, where they raised additional funds through live and silent auctions.

As part of this event, participants had the opportunity to bid on a one-of-a-kind trip to Tampa to see a Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game with a visit to the dressing room with Cirelli to meet the Tampa team.

“We are so grateful to Mercedes-Benz Newmarket and their customers for their renewed support of Southlake,” said Jennifer Ritter, President and CEO of Southlake Foundation.  “Last year’s support from Mercedes helped us to make incredible progress in our Campaign and as a result, we will bring the first ever PET-CT scanner to York Region, a game changer for the diagnosis, staging of treatment and monitoring of cancer. This latest gift will continue to drive momentum towards our $20 million goal, supporting new advanced equipment at the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre like adding a fifth Linear Accelerator so that we can expand our Radiation Therapy Program to administer more than 7000 additional radiation treatments annually. This level of support means so much to us and we hope it will inspire other caring companies in our community to help drive us even closer to our goal as we continue to create the cancer care our communities deserve.”

“It is an incredible honour to work with the talented, caring people at Southlake who strive to make a difference in the lives of those in need throughout the York Region”, said Brian Fulton, Managing Partner at Mercedes-Benz Newmarket.  “I would like to thank all of our customers who supported us during the campaign, especially Morgan and Anthony, who continue to set a great example of leadership off the ice!”

“We cannot thank Mercedes-Benz Newmarket enough for their generous donation to cancer care at Southlake,” said Derek McNally, Executive Vice President, Clinical Services at Southlake, and Regional Vice President, Cancer Services, Central Cancer Program. “Community fundraising like Mercedes’ helps make sure Southlake’s staff, physicians and volunteers can be by our patients’ side throughout every step of their cancer journey.  This in turn ensures the delivery of high-quality, leading edge cancer care to the patients and families we serve.”

Delivering cancer care to York Region and South Simcoe County, the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake has redefined what a regional hospital is truly capable of. Informed by innovative research, Southlake’s oncology experts provide high-quality, compassionate, patient-centred care in a light and uplifting atmosphere. It consistently ranks within the top three of Ontario’s Cancer Centres and was the first hospital in Ontario to partner with the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network.
