Southlake opens a COVID-19, Cold and Flu Clinic at the Recreation Youth Centre

Tuesday January 18, 2022

Southlake Regional Health Centre (Southlake) is once again partnering with the Town of Newmarket, this time to open a COVID-19, Cold and Flu clinic at the Recreation Youth Centre (56 Charles Street). The clinic will open on Wednesday, January 19 and provide in-person care for members of our community with symptoms of COVID-19, cold or flu. The clinic will be staffed by physicians from Southlake’s Emergency Department teamed with Southlake nurses. Southlake is committed to provide timely and high-quality access to health care and clinicians in both the Emergency Department and through this clinic.

“With the Province of Ontario recently changing its guidelines on who can receive a PCR test, the opening of an additional clinic focused on COVID-19, cold and flu will provide a convenient option for people experiencing symptoms,” says Mayor John Taylor.  “Southlake has continued to play a vital role throughout this pandemic. I want to once again thank the whole Southlake team for their hard work and their unwavering efforts to keep our community safe during these very challenging and unpredictable times.”

The clinic will provide in-person care for those with symptoms such as:

  • Any symptoms of COVID-19
  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Sinus pain
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Other cold or flu symptoms

Please note that this clinic is not a COVID-19 Assessment Centre and does not provide PCR swab tests. Click here for eligibility details of Southlake’s Assessment Centre at 22 Prospect Street.

“Southlake is pleased to partner with the Town of New market again to provide the community with the right care in the right place. This clinic will provide care for people with moderate COVID, cold, or flu-like symptoms who need an in-person visit. Given the seriousness of the situation in our hospital, this will help the Emergency Department focus on caring for those who need emergency care,” says Arden Krystal, President and CEO of Southlake.

Newmarket continues to support the fight against the Omicron variant with two vaccination clinics recently opening in the community:

  • Ray Twinney Recreation Complex vaccination centre, in partnership with the Southlake Community Ontario Health Team (OHT). Appointments can be booked through the provincial booking system
  • Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall (200 Doug Duncan Drive) vaccination centre, in partnership with York Region. Appointments can be booked at york.ca/COVID19Vaccine or by calling Access York at 1-877-464-9675

The Youth Centre and all other Town recreation facilities are currently closed to the public inline with provincial regulations. When it is safe to reopen, the Town will reopen a portion of the Youth Centre with a separate entrance to allow for much-needed recreational programming for youth.
